Jakarta, March 7, 2026 – The term "deep learning" has recently become a more frequent topic of discussion within the Indonesian education sector. However, this concept is not actually new. Deep learning is an approach that emphasizes a holistic understanding of concepts, the ability to connect knowledge with real-world situations, and encourages students to think critically and reflectively—rather than simply memorizing material for examinations.
This spirit serves as the background for the "Challenges & Opportunities in Implementing Deep Learning" Workshop organized by the Regional Christian Education Council (MPKW) Jabodesiten. The event was held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Sekolah Dian Harapan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta.
The activity, which took place from 08:30 to 15:00 WIB, was attended by 90 participants from 16 school foundations that are members of the Christian Education Council (MPK), representing various educational levels, from Kindergarten to High School.
This workshop is one of MPKW Jabodesiten's efforts to support the improvement of learning quality in Christian schools, particularly in implementing the concept of deep learning in the classroom.
The Chairman of MPKW Jabodesiten, Benny Murtono, explained that the number of participants in this activity was intentionally designed to be limited so that the learning process during the workshop could be more focused and effective.
“Participants were deliberately divided based on educational levels, ranging from Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, to High School. In this way, the material discussed can be more relevant, and participants can focus more on each session,” Benny stated.
Participants attending this activity came from school foundations that are members of MPK, particularly from categories C and D. Invitations were also delivered personally by MPKW to further encourage school administrators to attend and participate in this activity.
This step is also in line with MPK Indonesia's vision toward 2030, which is to accelerate the transformation process of Christian schools to produce graduates who are excellent, adaptive, capable of leading, making a positive impact, and possessing Christian character.
Guided by the MPK Indonesia Executive Board and the BPK PENABUR Jakarta Team
The activity began with a plenary session attended by all participants. In this session, Dr. Sylvia P. Soetantyo, M.Ed.St., an Executive Board Member of Department 1C of MPK Indonesia, served as the keynote speaker, providing a presentation on the importance of implementing deep learning in the educational process.
Following the joint session, participants then attended workshops divided by educational level. The workshops were guided by the BPK PENABUR Jakarta Team as facilitators.
In this workshop, participants attended two main sessions. The first session discussed designing a conscious, meaningful, and enjoyable learning flow, while the second session addressed assessment in deep learning.
Through this activity, participants were invited to understand more concretely how to design learning that not only emphasizes material mastery but also encourages deeper, reflective, and relevant understanding for students. MPKW Jabodesiten hopes that this activity can serve as a step toward strengthening the quality of learning in MPK member Christian schools to support the sustainable educational transformation process.
